A value around US$ 40 millions should be applied, in the next 2 years, in the modernization of the Port of Salvador, as part of the preparation of the city for receiveing games of the Fifa World Cup, in 2014. The project foresees a bigger integration of the port with the city, taking advantage of to his excellent location, near to the Historical Center of the future Arena Fonte Nova, where the games will be carried out.
“We want to turn the port into a cultural center of leisure and gastronomy, near to the main tourist points of Salvador, as the Mercado Modelo and Pelourinho, with sightseeing for the Todos os Santos ‘bay and the Forte de São Marcelo”, explained José Muniz Rebouças, president of Codeba, the government’s agency in charge of the ports of Bahia.
The project focus on the implementation of a modern maritime station in the warehouses 1 and 2 of the Port of Salvador. The goal is to integrate part of the coastline of the commercial quay of the port to the central area of the neighborhood of the Commerce, revitalizing the localities and endowing to Bahian capital of a multipurpose physical space for the population and for the receptive of ships of tourism.
