If the construction work of the new Arena da Baixada do not show ” significant progress ” in the evaluation of FIFA until next February 18 , the city of Curitiba , capital of Parana state , may be out of the World Cup 2014 .
The statement was made on Tuesday by the secretary general of FIFA , Jerome Vackle , after examination of the works of the stadium , the latest among 12 who were chosen to host matches of the World .
Four matches are scheduled for the city : Iran -Nigeria (June 16) , Honduras v Ecuador (June 20) , Australia v Spain (June 23) and Algeria v Russia (June 26) .
The decision on the maintenance of the matches will be taken on February 18 , when representatives of all participating teams of the world must come together in Florianópolis , Santa Catarina State , to evaluate local matches . So far, FIFA has not announced which cities would be held in these four games if the stadium in Curitiba continue with the work in hand.
