Over 300 Homosexuals Were Murdered in Brazil in 2013

A report released on Friday, 14, at Grupo Gay da Bahia, points the Pernambuco State as the most violent against homosexuals in Brazil during 2013. There were 34 murders of gays, lesbians and transvestites in this state, the second largest in the Northeast, a region that had 43% of the national events.
In the country, the annual report of murders of homosexuals in Brazil recorded 310 deaths, a decrease of 7.7% compared to 2012. The GGB statistics included 10 suicides of homosexuals would not have overcome the homophobic pressure.
Still, the research coordinator, Professor Luiz Mott, an anthropologist at the Federal University of Bahia, believes that the numbers do not reflect all homophobic violence.
As the survey takes into account only the cases published in newspapers and were informed by NGOs across the country, Mott believes in underreporting of hate crimes against homosexuals.
